Death Enabled is a term used on Naruto Forum RolePlay to describe an event or situation where your character is actually capable of dying. In most normal roleplaying around the site, your character is literally protected by rules that prevent them from dying unless you, the roleplayer of the character in question, accepts the death. There are special circumstances revolving around Death Enabled that will be discussed here. In the order in which they will appear within this thread:
Standard Roleplay
Critical Hits
Death-Enabled Roleplay
How does a thread become Death Enabled?
Gate Threads
Character Ninja Ranks
Character Village Ranks
ANBU/Shinobi Hunter
Missing Nin
Kage
IIC Time
Specifically Accepted Rules
Standard Roleplay
Standard roleplay is basic interaction between two or more characters within a single thread. Sometimes, these expansions can be built off of other threads. However, that is not always the case. Almost all types of interaction within the site will be considered Standard Roleplay, and as such, you must simply follow the regular rules of the forums. In Standard Roleplay, your character is incapable of dying no matter how damaging the wound your character has received. The only exception to this rule is the rule of Critical Hits.
What Is A Critical Hit?
A critical hit is a situation within standard roleplaying where someone has neglected to mention a specific part of an attack. In such a scenario, the individual who missed a key detail within an attack is forced to take the hit in the manner that the individual's opponent intended. Failing to make mention of a specific part of an opponent's attack activates the critical hit scenario, and if you are damaged within a critical hit scenario in a manner that would result in your character's death, you will die.
Example
John attacks Kate. John throws his secondary weapons bag at Kate and then yells something. Kate doesn't mention within her post the flying bag, only mentions the talking. The flying bag becomes capable of striking her anywhere the user wishes, including activating potential weaponry within the bag.
Death Enabled Roleplay
Death Enabled Roleplay is any thread that has been specifically designated as Death Enabled. All Events are Death Enabled, unless there is a specific reason why this would not be the case (Example: A Welcome Home ceremony).
How Does A Thread Become Death Enabled?
In order for a thread to be Death Enabled, the following conditions must exist:
It must be stated within the title of the thread (Example: Making Love [DE].) In threads that begin Death Enabled, a warning DE must be placed within the thread's title.
ALL Individuals agree that the thread should become Death Enabled. If even one individual that is participating within a thread does not want the thread to become Death Enabled, it is the responsibility of those who WANT the Death Enabled thread to make A DIFFERENT THREAD and exit to that one. At any point that the thread makes a turn for Death Enabled, a CLEAR, EASILY UNDERSTANDABLE, AND VISIBLE WARNING MUST BE GIVEN within the post that the thread becomes Death Enabled so that those who might be joining the thread later are all made aware of the fact that the thread has become DE. If someone joins later and didn't take the time to read and find out that the thread is DE, then they are SOL, they should've been paying attention.
If an individual person attacks someone who is Death Enabled, then they become Death Enabled as well. If one is defending themselves from an attack from a Death Enabled person, they are NOT considered Death Enabled.
Gate Threads
All Gate Threads through any Hidden Village are considered to be Death Enabled to any individual not a member of that village. Because the Village Gate is the first place to be both attacked and defended should a war ever arise, traveling through the Gates of a village without the good graces of that Village makes someone become capable of dying. If one is being escorted by a villager, then they are no longer Death Enabled. This Death Enabled status will last until the individual is no longer within the village.
Example
John the Kusa Nin is taking a stroll through Amegakure no Sato's village gate. From the moment that John enters the Gate thread, he is to be considered Death Enabled until he leaves the Village.
Character Ninja Ranks
When an individual reaches a Character Ninja Rank of "B" Rank or higher(1500 TP or higher), then no matter where they are, what thread they are in, who they are traveling with, then their character is considered to be Death Enabled at all times. Anyone that they attack is not considered Death Enabled, but anyone who attacks them is considered Death Enabled.
Character Village Ranks
There are three ranks that one can obtain within a Village that triggers an automatic status of Death Enabled. Some of the Ranks, however, have specific rules regarding their Death Enabled Status that will be placed into full detail below.
ANBU/Shinobi Hunter
When one becomes an ANBU or a Shinobi Hunter, they are considered to be Death Enabled whenever they have entered a thread with a Missing Nin currently within it. It doesn't matter if the ANBU or Shinobi Hunter knows IC that they are dealing with a Missing Nin, only that they are within the same thread. There also exists a rule that if the Village is being attacked, ANBU become Death Enabled as well as all Village Attackers.
Missing Nin
Similar to those who have gained "B" Rank in Character Ninja Rank, a Missing Nin is ALWAYS, no matter what thread they are in, who they are traveling with, or what they are doing, Death Enabled. They can be killed at any time without discretion or mercy, but obviously the opponent must find out first that they are dealing with a Missing Nin.
Kage
When one takes upon the role of the Kage, they receive an extremely heavy burden. After being responsible for taking care of their entire village, they are considered to be Death Enabled but also have a special defense in their Death Enabled system. This defense is called Diplomatic Immunity.
Diplomatic Immunity
Diplomatic Immunity is a power given only to those who take up the Role as Kage. When this occurs, they are only capable of being attacked with an Event. An Event in which a Kage is attacked is required to be posted 48 hours in advance to the actual occurrence, and only one attempt on a Kage's life may be created per month. A Kage forfeits their Diplomatic Immunity status in one of two cases:
They attack another person.
Their village is being attacked and they enter the field of battle to defend it. Attacking a Village, however, requires an Event for that specific occurrence.
A Kage may only regain their Diplomatic Immunity status once the entire interaction which caused them to lose that status in the first place has ended.
IIC (Inactive In Character) Time
At the beginning of some threads, as well as in most Events, there will be something listed as IIC Time. Inactive In Character (IIC) Time is a grace period of days where you're allowed to not post. This is the time where you can review all the posts that have happened before your turn so that you're capable of making a valid and reasonable judgment as to how your character should act and react.
In the first instance of missing the IIC date within a battle, the opponent's attack will be treated as a critical hit, but your character cannot be killed from it. On the second consecutive instance of you missing the IIC date within a battle, the opponent's attack will be treated like a critical hit and your character may die from it. IIC Time must be CLEARLY ESTABLISHED at the beginning of a thread, or else this entire concept is completely null and void.
Finally, some threads have specific rules involving their IIC time, things like your post simply gets skipped and you move on, so be sure to pay attention for important information such as this.
Specifically Designated Rules
At any point in time, the Admin or a Head Mod can rule your character dead for any number of reasons. At this time, don't argue, as it will be nothing but counter-productive. While the Admin or a Head Mod maintain the ability to rule a character dead, at the same time, they have the authority to void a death that has happened. Once more, do not argue, you're wasting time.
